April is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) in the United Kingdom (UK) and
Dr Essam Abdelhakim, MBChB FRCS; Chief Medical Officer for MeDiNova Research said:
“MeDiNova Research is dedicated to working towards a healthier future for all.
“This April at MeDiNova Research we are taking the opportunity promote the campaign on our website to help raise awareness of bowel cancer.
“Bowel cancer is the UK’s second biggest cancer killer however it shouldn’t be. If diagnosed early, it is treatable and curable. Nearly everyone diagnosed at the earliest stage will survive bowel cancer, but this drops significantly as the disease develops.”
It is important that people recognise the symptoms of bowel cancer which can include:
- Bleeding from your bottom and/or blood in your poo
- A persistent and unexplained change in bowel habit
- Unexplained weight loss
- Extreme tiredness for no obvious reason
- A pain or lump in your tummy
If your symptoms are severe, or you also feel generally unwell, or the symptoms keep coming back – see your GP.
This year Beating Bowel Cancer and Bowel Cancer UK have merged to form the UK’s leading bowel cancer charity, with a mission to ensure that by 2050, no-one will die of bowel cancer.
